Basic Spanish

Dear CCA Parents,

I would like the opportunity to teach our Little Warriors to grow in their language skills by teaching them basic Spanish.  This year Basic Spanish will be offered to K3 thru 4th grade.  Those in higher grades interested in taking a Basic Spanish class please contact me for other arrangements.

Studies have shown repeatedly that foreign language learning increases critical thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility of mind in young children. Students who are learning a foreign language out-score their non-foreign language learning peers in the verbal and, surprisingly to some, the math sections of standardized tests. This relationship between foreign language study and increased mathematical skill development, particularly in the area of problem solving, points once again to the fact that second language learning is more of a cognitive than linguistic activity.

What does this program offer...The Basic Spanish program will introduce students to the Spanish language and to Hispanic cultures in 30-45 minute length, age-grade matched classes one day per week.

Class time is spent exploring the Spanish language through vocabulary building sessions and basic conversation. Due to limited class time the emphasis is not on attaining proficiency or fluency but developing confidence in learning the Spanish language. This program will provide a basis for your child's later Spanish language learning.

The key goals of this program is to:

·  To introduce foreign language learning as a concept.

·  To learn basic words and phrases in the target language.

·  To develop careful listening skills for unfamiliar sounds.

·  To develop cultural and linguistic awareness.

·  To appreciate the value of communication in another language.

What can you do at home to enhance your child’s experience learning the language?

Be sure to encourage your child's interest in the language and in other cultures. Show him or her that you value the ability to speak a second language. Attend cultural events that feature music, dance, or food from the country or countries where the language is spoken. If possible, provide some books, videos, or other materials in the second language. If you are familiar with the language yourself, read to your child.

Classes will begin after September 6th.  If we have enough students there will be a class on Tuesday and Thursday 3:00 to 3:30 / 3:45.  However this is subject to change based on size of the class.

There will be a registration fee of $30.00 and a monthly tuition fee of $25.00.  For those of you that are interested please contact me at 601-955-7498.

Sincerely,
